What’s the best thing about having an iPhone? It’s like having a mini version of my Macbook with me at all times. The worst thing? It’s equally, if not more, addicting. The amount of available apps is enough to keep me occupied throughout all of my “in-between” times (on the bus, waiting for the train, etc.).

Here are my first page’s worth of applications. I refuse to pay for them, and have found that you can pretty much get everything you’ll ever need for free. I like to keep them in order by how frequently I use them. I keep the silly things like Virtual Bubble wrap and the Lightsaber (not that the force is any joking matter) on the second page.

Facebook: I hate to admit it, but it is definitely my most used app.  I use it the most while I’m on or waiting for the bus. I like it because it does what it should, but it can be a bit glitchy. Sometimes things don’t refresh on their own. I also accidently “like” things frequently due to the placement of the button and the touch scroll. One of my favorite features that sets it apart from the usual Facebook is the shortcuts page. I can list friends’ profiles that I go to most frequently and be there in a right scroll and a click. It’s good for easy Facebook creepin’ too

Public Radio: This is probably my favorite app. It gives you access to public radio stations from all over the country. You can listen to streams live or on-demand. I save This American Life for Monday mornings, when I listen to it using on-demand. I frequently use the “live” option to listen to WBEZ and this awesome music station from New Orleans.

Craig’s Phone: Everyone loves browsing Craigslist, it has both its practical and recreational uses. I like to read the Missed Connections. I’m always hoping I’ll find one searching for “brunette 20-something on the Red Line.” It never really pans out.

Cool Facts: This app is perfect for awkward situations. It is just a huge database of random facts right at your fingertips. I have used it to fill a silent moment and kill some time. “Kissing can aid in reducing tooth decay. This is because the extra saliva helps in keeping the mouth clean.”

AroundMe: It’s pretty self-explanatory. It uses the phone’s GPS to tell you where things are around you. Restaurants, bars, hospitals banks, and, of course, the nearest Apple Store.
