I've had an iPhone for two years now, and I honestly can't remember what life was like without it. There was once a time I actually carried both a phone and an iPod? Gosh. Admittedly, I still sometimes catch myself listening to music and thinking "where's my phone?" However, the great thing about my iPhone is that, even though a lot of people have one, nobody's is exactly like mine and what makes mine distinct are my apps (and the fact that I'm one of the few with the white one).
Days Until (free) - This free app counts down to your next event. Whether it be a birthday or a concert, you can customize it with whatever photo you'd like for each countdown. At the moment, my Days Until app was telling me there was one day until the Cubs’ opening day vs. Milwaukee. It also keeps a record of elapsed events—for example Christmas was 109 days ago. Oh, and for those of you wondering, if you have a Monday final like I do, school's over in 26 days. Yesss.
Video Camera (standard on 3GS models) - Ever since I upgraded to the 3GS, I have been constantly using the video mode of the camera. Since I always have my phone on me it’s really easy to capture those candid moments. I have tons of videos now, from clips of my crossing the Mexico-U.S. border to my kid sister giving her best Italian accent. I’m not going to lie, the video function alone makes me glad I upgraded.
At Bat Lite (free) - I've had this app for over two years now and I must say, it's perfect for a baseball fan. The lite version includes scores, news, standings, as well as an option to highlight your favorite team. This app also allows you to see what time the games are, where they're at and probable pitchers as well as their records and ERAs. The full version of this app is At Bat 2010 ($14.99 per season) and includes audio, video, pitch by pitch playback and player stats. Now that I'm thinking about it, being a huge baseball fan, I should probably upgrade.
CTA Tracker ($0.99) & iTrans CTA ($1.99) - These apps are real-time trackers for both the busses (CTA Tracker) and the trains (iTrans CTA). These must be the most used apps on my phone and are a must-have, essential for any LU student with an iPhone. You can choose your favorite stops for the bus, such as ones around campus or downtown. It’s really handy on rainy days or really cold days, because I won’t leave to go to the el station or bus stop until I know a train or bus is coming.
