Buster ($.99) — Out of all of the CTA bus tracking applications, I think Buster is the best. It predicts bus times with fairly excellent accuracy. You can also save favorite stops (such as “Sheridan and Loyola” for the #147 bus).

Shazam (free version) — Calling all music lovers: If you don’t already know about Shazam, then get your head out of the sand. Say you’re in a restaurant and you hear a really catchy tune but have no idea what it is. Just press a button and in seconds, you’ll get the song title and artist. The premium version of Shazam lets you buy the song, share it on Facebook and Twitter and get music recommendations, but the free one works fine for me.

Scrabble ($4.99) — Although this app is on the pricey side, it’s totally worth it. I am a Scrabble lover and this program by Hasbro makes those long el rides much more bearable. You can even play opponents within a WiFi area or on Facebook.

Bank of America (free) — I use my Bank of America app constantly to check my current balance, keep up with pending and cleared transactions and transfer money from my savings account to my checking account. It’s like carrying a virtual checkbook. And don’t worry, it’s password protected.

BirdStrike ($.99) — BirdStrike is a really fun game and my latest app. The only reason I have it is because my boyfriend bought it without asking. But I’m not angry, because I’m already addicted to it. The object of this graphic- rich game is to help Gerald the flightless bird make up for what fellow members of his species do well — move through the air. With the help of rockets and jet packs, you propel Gerald higher and higher up the side of a building so he can access some tasty snacks (and feel better about himself).

Now Playing (free) — With so many movie theater options in Chicago, this app is a must for the filmophile. You can read critical reviews of new releases, locate theaters and even buy tickets all through this handy app.
