Bottled Water Ban To Take Effect This Fall

Say goodbye to bottled water, Loyolans. The university will implement the ban on bottled water sales this fall.

Come next semester, bottled water will be removed from university dining service venues and catering. Vending machines and other Loyola contracts will no longer offer it beginning in 2013.

The ban is a result of efforts led by Loyola’s Student Environmental Alliance (SEA) and Unified Student Government Association (USGA).

While sustainability was a factor in the decision, the groups were predominantly concerned with issues surrounding water privatization and their desire to give people around the world equal access to water.

In support of the year-long “UnCap Loyola” campaign, administration has installed 35 water bottle refill stations in buildings around campus and has given out reusable bottles to people in the Loyola community.

Here is the May 3 university press release.
