Seasons Change
Hey out there, I apologize for not writing last week. I had the flu and was out of it for a few days. Being ill really sucks, but I was fortunate to only need rest and some medicine. I am back into the swing of things now. It is a good thing I’m better, because this is going to be an exciting week.
We have our first few games this week: Tuesday Nov. 10, an exhibition against Robert Morris University in Gentile Center, and Sunday, Nov. 15, our first official game versus Saint Xavier University, also at home. After what seems like months of practicing against each other we are finally going to play against other people. It gets wearisome playing the same people everyday, we each know the offense and each other’s strengths so it becomes harder to do anything extremely well. Last weekend’s scrimmage against Eastern Illinois was good for us because we were able to see how the things we’ve been working on benefit our team. We also were able to see the things we need to improve on. That is what we have spent the last six practices doing so these two games shall be interesting.
In regards to Eastern Illinois, I feel it’s only appropriate to ask the Phoenix readers to keep that University’s athletic program and players in their prayers. Last week, assistant women’s basketball coach for Eastern Illinois, Jackie Moore, passed away and the Loyola University women’s basketball program has sent their condolences.
It is crazy how unpredictable life is, that is why one thing I have learned is to live every moment to the fullest. You never know what may happen tomorrow; yesterday is finished so all you can do is live today. Our team has been through a lot, but the past really does not matter. All we can do is work our hardest to be a better team, and I think we have finally realized that the opportunity we have to represent our school is truly a privilege. So expect us to leave it all out on the court. We have nothing to lose.
Now I missed writing last week, so I didn’t get to tell you about the Lupe Fiasco concert. Let me start by stating that it was simply amazing! He never fails to entertain and I really enjoyed myself. I saw a bunch of Loyola students there. One of them caught Lupe’s jacket when he threw it into the crowd. I am too jealous.
Anyway, I hope the semester is going well for you all. I know it is tough to stay focused but we are almost done. Time really flies. Soon it will be break and you will be at home enjoying the holidays. So don’t sweat the small stuff, study hard and keep it moving. The tests and papers will be a thing of the past sooner than later.
If you have the time, Sunday at 2 p.m., come to Gentile Center and watch us play Saint Xavier. We would really appreciate the support and it’d be nice to have a bunch of people to play in front of for our first game. Have a wonderful end of the week and weekend. Have fun, but be safe.
P.S. Hasn’t this weather just been amazing? I really could get used to Novembers like this. Hope you got a chance to enjoy the warmth because I hear it’s going to cool down again.
Peace and Much Love,
