Before I begin, I would really like to thank those that came out to Midnight Madness. We truly appreciate the support and love that was shown that night. It was a lot of fun.

Congrats to Geoff McCammon on winning the dunk contest, and apologies to Marcus Thomas on not beating Maggie in the three-point contest.

I told you all who was going to win though, didn’t I? In all seriousness, we really are grateful for fans taking the time out to spend their Friday evening with us and hope that you will come out to some games this year.

We had our first official practice Saturday morning and it was pretty tough. Our practices so far have been very intense, but we get so much accomplished on the court in those three hours. The girls and I are feeling it though, so it is very likely you will see us moving around campus a little slow with a couple ice bags.

Props to our trainer Chris Konior. She does a lot to help us take care of our bodies and any injuries we have.

After Sunday’s practice, Coach Simpson had his old high school coach come speak to us. It was kind of cool.We have never had a guest speaker come to encourage us. He was the coach at St. Ignatius and told us gutsy stories about our new head coach.

He also emphasized how much we should treasure playing basketball for our school, noting that the present can never be relived, and that once it has happened it becomes the past. That is so true for basketball and any other aspect of life. We appreciate him taking the time on a Sunday afternoon to talk with us.

Anyway, regardless of how tough midterms are, working while having a full load of classes, relationships and anything else that may be causing stress in your lives, I encourage you to treasure each day, because you never know what the future holds.

My teammates and I are shifting our minds to think this way because once the season is over, basketball is nothing but the past for some of us.

We have five seniors and this is their last chance to succeed at college basketball. Every day we are becoming better people and players because we are starting to appreciate every second.

Once again, thank you so much for coming out to Midnight Madness.

Peace and Much Love, Taryn Randle, no. 22
