We went 2-2 last week with a huge win at home against UIC where senior Angie Funston pitched a great game. UIC intentionally walked catcher Jenna Grim to load the bases for Angie, who answered with a huge grand slam. The UIC game was an exciting, outstanding win for us. Angie continued her hot hitting streak with two more home runs in our mid-week series at Green Bay. It’s always tough facing conference rivals on the road. We travel to Valparaiso this weekend for our last conference series on the road this year, and it is hard to believe that we are in the home stretch of our season already.

After this week, the remainder of our season will be at home. We have Northern Illinois at home Tuesday, April 27, for a 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. double-header and UIC at home on Thursday, April 29, for a 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. double-header, so come on out and support the Ramblers.

PACK THE PLACE ...

We match up with 2009 conference champs Cleveland State at home next weekend for games at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday, May 1, and noon on Sunday, May 2. We’re looking to pack the place on Sunday with games, prizes, tailgating and free T-shirts.

PRETTY IN PINK ...

Finally, the Loyola softball team is very excited to help strike out breast cancer at our games on Tuesday, May 4, versus DePaul at 4 p.m. and Sunday, May 9 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. double-header versus Detroit University on Mother’s Day. Former Loyola softball pitching coach Amber Podlesny was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer.

In an effort to raise money for Breast Cancer research, the Loyola Softball team will be playing in pink on May 4 and May 9. We’ll be selling T-shirts and hosting special raffles throughout the game to raise funding and awareness for this special cause.
