Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down

Up to men’s volleyball

During the time of year when the U.S. is losing to Canada, LeBron is changing his number and the Loyola’s men’s team is losing five straight including another first-round Horizon League Tournament loss. You men seem to be the only stable and deeply successful part of the sports world for a Rambler fan nowadays. Speaking of basketball ...

Down to men’s basketball

I hate to end your guys’ season on a thumbs down. You’re almost always nice to us here at Sports, which makes this that much harder. But at the end of the season, when other teams stepped up their game for a run at the conference championship, you guys twitched a little, rolled over and died. There’s always next year.

Up to track athletes

Toiling away in the sport that too few students pay close attention to, the Loyola track team has put together a pretty solid indoor season. So thumbs up to both the men and women’s track and field teams for quietly putting together one of the better seasons of any Rambler teams this season. Show those Notre Dame chumps who’s boss.

Up to women’s basketball

The ladies put together an average February, going 4-3, but finished off the month strong with a decisive three-point win over cross-city foe UIC after a big bad loss to conference leader Green Bay. They still have a couple more games before entering the Horizon League Championship, but that last game showed that they have some serious heart.

And this week’s shout-out goes to The Rowdies.

Congrats to all you Rambler fans out there winning the Horizon League’s first ever No. 1 Student Section Trophy, especially the ones who came to the Butler game on Jan. 21. More than 1,000 students did, whether it be for the free food or prizes. Now maybe you’ll take that enthusiasm and go to, well, any other Loyola athletic event. Just saying.
