Rambler women get sweet revenge with 67-64 victory on the road
The last time LU and UIC went head-to-head, the Flames’ Jessie Miller dropped 29 points on the Ramblers — 21 of which came during the second half. Miller’s spark helped UIC snatch a victory away from Loyola. The Ramblers had a chance to redeem themselves on Feb. 27, traveling across town to the UIC Pavilion.
Former Rambler soccer star Morote-Ariza talks about life as a professional athlete
After missing almost an entire season due to a knee injury, the last thing senior Cynthia Morote-Ariza expected was to be the first Loyola women’s soccer player drafted to a professional team. On Jan. 15, however, the Boston Breakers chose her in the fifth round of the 2010 Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) Draft.
Volleyball club player overcomes surgery through power of sport
A volleyball drives over the net to the center of the court where sophomore Tom Angerame slides into position, receives the serve and sets his team up with a scoring opportunity.
It’s hard to believe that less than a year ago he was in a wheelchair, barely able to withstand the duration of a volleyball match at his alma mater Buffalo Grove high school, where in 2008, he led them to a second place finish in the state competition — unsure of whether he would be able to return to his beloved sport, he cheered his former team on to a third place finish in 2009.
Road not a factor in quick victory at no. 15 Lewis for 10-0 Loyola
For the Loyola men’s volleyball team, luck has absolutely nothing to do with it. The Ramblers rocked Romeoville, Ill., last Tuesday beating no. 15 ranked Lewis University 3-0 to remain the only undefeated team in the country.
Ramblers kick off 2010 season in Florida tournament, but only go 1-4
While snow and cold temperatures swept LU and the rest of Chicago this weekend, the women’s softball team was hard at work catching some rays and fly balls at the Florida Atlantic University Milken Tournament.
Track braces for NCAA Championship
Some teams in other sports have nicknames for star duos, trios or teams, such as “Thunder and Lightning,” “The Four Horsemen” or “The Big Red Machine.” But if Loyola ever decided to continue that tradition for the track and field team, they’d have their work cut out for themselves after the Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Cactus League Spring Training
The other night, the local news assaulted me, and I don’t think I will ever be able to forgive it for its coverage of Cactus League spring training.
Since I wrote about the U.S. hockey team last week, I figured that this week I’d write about something else, like the American four-man bobsled team’s success or NFL Draft coverage.
But then, halfway through my column, I flipped to the U.S. hockey team’s game against Canada and was mesmerized. If you didn’t tune in, you missed a doozie.
We just got back from our first weekend on the dirt. It’s great just to start the season.
I’m so proud of how hard our team played. It’s tough to open the season against teams that have already played in a few tournaments, especially when you haven’t even practiced outdoors.
Chicago Blackhawks VS. Detroit Red Wings If the season were to end today, the Red Wings wouldn’t make the playoffs. Ouch. That’s a shot to the head for a lot of residents in Hockeytown, especially after two consecutive trips to the Stanley Cup Finals.
I’ll be the first to admit that the whole 2010 free agency storyline is overblown and overdone. Yet, here I am, contributing to the frenzy like all the other enablers out there.
Up to men’s volleyball During the time of year when the U.S. is losing to Canada, LeBron is changing his number and the Loyola’s men’s team is losing five straight including another first-round Horizon League Tournament loss. You men seem to be the only stable and deeply successful part of the sports world for a Rambler fan nowadays.
