A Loyola student was arrested earlier this month at Northwestern Memorial Hospital after emergency room staff allegedly found heroin and a syringe hidden in one of his shoes. He is facing felony charges and will stand before a Cook County judge on Friday, according to Chicago Police News Affairs.
The student, a 24-year-old man, went to Northwestern Memorial Hospital on April 19 for undisclosed reasons, said officer Veejay Zala of police News Affairs.
“Somewhere during the course of his treatment it was discovered that he was in possession of narcotics and narcotic paraphernalia,” Zala said.
The student could not be reached before press time.
As the student waited to see an ER doctor, he was told to put on a hospital gown and at some point removed his shoes, one of which contained five packets of heroin and a hypodermic needle, according to Campus Safety. Hospital staff called the police, who arrested the student.
The student is charged with one felony count of possession of a controlled substance and two misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.
He has an April 30 court date at the Cook County Criminal courthouse on 26th Street and California Avenue.
