I am responding to your "thumbs down" [2/20/08] to Ramblers softball regarding their stolen camera. I find it totally appalling that a writer for the school newspaper would blatantly insult the softball team. The thought of theft among supposed high-caliber students at such a prestigious school is sickening enough. You were kindly asked to write a blurb on the stolen camera with hopes the team could recover their priceless memories. Your brazen "thumbs down" is not only a slap in the face, but it also gives credit to the thief and validates the crime. Additionally, the fact that you would top it off with a sexually suggestive pun is just plain pathetic. I know the girls of Loyola softball are tough and I'm confident they could take a few jokes. Furthermore, I'm sure they would agree the occasional blunder is fair game for the school paper. Your remarks, however, were highly inappropriate given how sensitive the situation is. I sincerely hope this was a mistake, and I hope you will take the proper steps to rectify it. At the very least, I think the team is due an apology. I would also expect the publishing of the "stolen camera" blurb you promised; this time in a more suitable column. Save the "thumbs up, thumbs down" column for your apology.
