Basketball will unlock Gentile Center on Oct. 12 for Midnight Madness, the annual kickoff to the men's and women's seasons.

The doors open at 10 p.m., kicking off an evening featuring free pizza and T-shirts, three-point and slam dunk contests and intersquad scrimmages. Admission is free.

Women's basketball's 2007 season tips off on Nov. 10 against Rob Morris at 5 p.m. as part of a doubleheader.

Men's basketball follows at 7 p.m. for their first test of the season against LeMoyne.

Women's softball earned recognition as a 2006-07 National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Academic Team Monday. With a team GPA of 3.432, the Ramblers were ranked ninth out of 277 NCAA Division programs last year.

The honor adds another distinction to softball's stellar 2007 spring, which included the 2007 Horizon League Title. The team returns six starters from last year.

Men's golf placed third out of 13 teams Tuesday at the John Dallio Memorial. The team finished with a score of 895, 15 strokes behind first-place Detroit.

Freshman Dylan Gergen shot a four-over par 220 (72-74-74) to finish fifth individually at Ruffled Feathers Golf Course. It was his best showing in his young collegiate career.

Loyola's fall season closes Oct. 8-9 at the IPFW Fall Classic. The Ramblers will look to repeat their success at the event from two years ago, when they won their first-ever tournament.

Women's golf shot themselves into third at the NIU Huskie Classic Monday, with the final round teeing off Tuesday afternoon in DeKalb.

Sophmore Lucy McGovern and freshman Lauren Oh each fired a five-over-par 77 in their initial rounds at Whisper Creek Golf Course, while Loyola's team score of 318 puts them 11 shots behind first-place NIU.

Loyola's fall season wraps up Oct. 15-16 at the IPFW Fall Classic in Fort Wayne, Ind.
